An elf's Tale
Looking back on my childhood, I remember many things. Good things, bad things, and magical things. I was born ni the forest village of Allisid in the land of my fathers. My parents named me Andelan. This forest village was different from most ofther elven villages in that it was filled with magic. It was said that Nethys himself had trod through the village and blessed the ground itself with magic. The village had an elder, usually the most wizened and magically powerful of our village. My father was a hunter for the village, noe of the lowlier rungs on the ladder, but a necessary one as food was necessary nd magic was reserved for more upstanding and impressive displays. It was from my father that I learned the ways of he bow and sword. He taught me that everything you fight with needs to be a weapon that is light or easily manuverable so that you can direct it towards critical areas. I learned enough from my father about martial weapons and from my mother I learned about Nethys, the god-king of magic, and how he saved us from the goblin and orc hordes. Magic and magical items were the cheif export of our small village and where seen as the highest form of achievement. My mother, Ethina, wanted more for her children than the simple life afforded by being a hunter on the outskirts of the village. More than a glorified wooden shack and more than a single magic item passed down as an heirloom. Our heirloom was a ring, a ring that slows falling from great hights, which wasgiven to my father by his father and thus, given to me. Mother oftened used the ring to motivate me in my studies to become a cleric of Nethys. Many years passed by with my study of Nethys and of the ways of the bow. Through the years our village was attacked many times by the savage orcs and the nasty little goblins in their raiding parties. Each time they attacked, they were repelled. However, in recent years the orcs and goblins seemed to be coordinating in their attacks, as if directed by some unseen source. The attacks became more frequent and more vicious until one night my family awoke to the sounds of screams and the light of fire. We ran outside and saw that the orcs and goblins were raiding again, except this time they had help, a dark shape fly above them spitting fire and death from its great maw. I was struck by its terrible power, surely Nethys would not abandon us to these creatures! My father ran backinside to grab bow and my mother, who was proficient with healing magic, told me to stay with my brother and defend our home should any of the invaders come at us, and then ran with my father into town. I did not know that it would be the last time I would see them. My brother and I grab our bows and I grabbed the heirloom ring. From there we found two tall trees near our house to take up our bows and fights the oncoming invaders. The goblins, wantons for destruction, were running rom place to place both in and outside the vilage, slaughtering those caught unaware and over runing those who had put up a pitiful defense. They began to run twords our house, I gave my brother a signal to stand down, to wait until they were closer. But, being the ‘fierce warrior’ of the family, he fired at them, immediately they turned towards him. The goblins had acaster with them and fired spells at him until he fell and was swarmed by the little bastards. I waited knowing that I would die as well, at least until help arrived. From the top of the tree I could see the village eler putting up a fight against the dark shape in the sky, flinging powerful magic at it and trying desperatly to wound it. He never saw his death coming, a group of orcs who had broken into the village weapon shop cut him down with theweapons that we had made. After seeing our most powerful leader fall I knew that we were doomed. I escaped by using the treetops and the ring. I swore by Nethys that I would have my revenge. Against the goblins. Against the orcs. Against that thing in the sky. Against whoever did this to my village. Andelan died that day. Only the world snake was left. I am Jormungandr and I am all that remains of Allisid.
